Why Wait till 2022 to Deliver LNG? Tellurian Contracts for Use of LNG Tanker for 6-Months Beginning Yesterday

Former BG COO Martin Houston (l) and former Cheniere CEO Charif Souki (r), Tellurian founders, flank CEO Meg Gentle. Even though projected startup date for its Driftwood LNG export terminal is 2022, Tellurian took delivery of an LNG tanker yesterday with the idea to begin marketing and delivering LNG this winter.

President and CEO Meg Gentle said, “As winter approaches, we will begin buying and delivering LNG on the Maran Gas Mystras, one of the most efficient vessels in the Maran Gas fleet. Developing our LNG marketing capabilities now prepares us to be one of the most flexible, competitive, and reliable LNG suppliers when Driftwood LNG begins operations in 2022.”

Tellurian said the tanker’s owner is the gas shipping unit of the Angelicoussis Shipping Group, a private company founded in 1947 and based in Athens, Greece.

Tellurian is building a natural gas business that includes development of the Driftwood LNG terminal, a ~ 26 mtpa LNG export facility, and an associated pipeline. Tellurian said it intends to develop low-cost natural gas-related infrastructure to deliver natural gas to customers worldwide.
