Based on end-user, the report categorizes the global industrial lobe pump market into three segments:

  • Wastewater treatment
  • Oil and gas
  • Food processing

Global industrial lobe pump market in wastewater treatment industry

Out of the 1,400 trillion cubic meters of water on our planet, fresh water accounts for only 3%. Technavio’s estimation is that about 1.8 billion people still have no access to drinking water, while over 2.5 billion have no access to adequate sanitation services. In such a scenario, wastewater treatment becomes an important method of converting water from domestic and industrial use into potable water that can be supplied to those in need of it.

According to Gaurav Mohindru, a lead analyst at Technavio for research on engineering tools, “Wastewater treatment of is one of the primary alternative methods of enhancing the earth's depleting water resources. Constant demand for more freshwater and environmental concerns will have a positive effect on the market in the future leading to increased opportunities for lobe pump use. The demand is likely to originate from expansion units, emerging plants, and upgrade units.”

Global industrial lobe pump market in oil and gas industry

Lobe pumps can pump abrasives, self-prime, and extract viscous materials, and can pump at a steady flow up to 2,000 GPM at a constant pressure, up to 150 psi. This has enabled their use in many oil and gas applications, including the upstream and downstream sectors. Lobe pumps are utilized in the oil and gas industry, mainly in exploration and production activities, which involve the application and extrusion of dense fluids like the feeding of drill fluid into the well, extraction of drill mud, and pumping of viscous crude oil. Lobe pumps have to be API 676 certified for use in the oil and gas sector.

The oil and gas industry has witnessed widespread volatility in the recent past in terms of crude oil prices and production uncertainties largely due to the policies of major producers like Saudi Arabia and Russia during 2014-2016.

Global industrial lobe pump market in food processing industry

A common problem that confronts the food and beverage industry at various stages of the food processing cycle is the presence of substantially large solids in the pumping media. The solids need to be pumped without crushing or without damaging the pump itself. The issue of high accuracy in adding or dosing ingredients into processes also needs to be considered while selecting the pump for the operation. The factors that compel the industry to opt for lobe pumps are their gentle pumping action and the ability to handle solids.

“Increasing population worldwide will also lead to an increase in demand for food and other associated production. To meet the rising demands of basic agricultural commodities like coarse grains, rice, and wheat, there is a strong need to raise the production of these products, which would result in an increased market for industrial lobe pumps,” says Gaurav.
