The EIA released its weekly Natural Gas Storage Report today, outlining how national natural gas stocks have changed in the last week.

In total, the EIA reports natural gas stocks rose by 78 Bcf last week, increasing to 2,152 Bcf from 2,074 Bcf. This is 25.0% below the 2,869 Bcf that was in storage at this point last year, and is 18.6% below the five-year average of 2,645 Bcf. This week’s storage build was slightly above expectations, as analysts predicted a build of 75 Bcf.

Weekly Gas Storage: Build Continues

Only one region, salt stocks in the South Central region, saw a draw this week, with inventories decreasing by 7 Bcf. The largest increases came in the Midwest and East regions, which each added 30 Bcf.

Stocks in every region are below the five-year average. Gas in storage in the Midwest region is the farthest below the five-year average for the area, at 25.9% below the average.
