The EIA released its weekly Natural Gas Storage Report today, outlining how national natural gas stocks have changed in the last week.

In total, the EIA reports natural gas stocks increased by 58 Bcf last week, rising from 3,408 Bcf to 3,466 Bcf. This is below the 3,593 Bcf that was in storage at this point last year, and is 1.2% above the five year average of 3,425. This week’s storage build was smaller than expected, as analysts predicted an increase of 68 Bcf.

The largest stock builds were found in the East and Midwest regions, which added a combined 41 Bcf of storage. Stocks increased in all regions this week.

Salt stocks in the South Central region currently significantly exceed the five-year average, with levels about 14.2% higher than the average. Gas in storage in the Pacific region is 9.4% lower than the five-year average for the area.
