The EIA released its weekly Natural Gas Storage Report today, outlining how national natural gas stocks have changed in the last week.

In total, the EIA reports natural gas stocks increased by 87 Bcf last week, rising from 3,508 Bcf to 3,595 Bcf. This is 4.1% below the 3,748 Bcf that was in storage at this point last year, and is 0.2% below the five year average of 3,603. This week’s storage build was larger than expected, as analysts predicted an increase of 82 Bcf.

The largest stock builds were found in the East and Midwest regions, which added a combined 58 Bcf of storage. Stocks increased in all regions this week.

Salt stocks in the South Central region and storage in the Mountain region currently significantly exceed the five-year average, with levels 6.2% higher than the average. Gas in storage in the Pacific region is 9.5% lower than the five-year average for the area.
