Oklahoma County Clerk David Hooten has developed a new website to give taxpayers access to county records by simply talking on their phone.
Hooten will demonstrate OKCC.Online to the Board of County Commissioners at their meeting Wednesday. He now owns the URL domain name OKCC.Online, but said he will donate it to the board.
The new site will provide a way to check public records by voice control and will accept payment if someone wants a document delivered, Hooten said.
“If you want something from the county you can get it without coming here and standing in line,” he said. “It’s a much easier, quicker access to county records.”
Hooten said the county keeps every record since 1890 — deeds, plats, oil and gas rights, liens and more. People access them for both business and personal reasons.
The process can be inconvenient, he said. A person has to come downtown, pay $10 to park, go through a metal detector and wait in line at the county clerk’s office.
“Taxpayers’ records should be available to them when they want them,” Hooten said.
OKCC.Online will be connected to all other county sites for easy navigation, he said.
It could save the county the $100,000 paid annually to the company that currently puts those records online, Hooten said.
The cost to retain the domain name will be $50.17 paid annually to GoDaddy.com, he said.
The Oklahoma County Board of County Commissioners will meet at 9 a.m. Wednesday in the county building at 320 Robert S Kerr Ave.
