Worldwide Increase in Overweight Population to Drive the Global Non-invasive Fat Reduction Devices Market Through 2020, Says Technavio

According to the latest market study released by Technavio, the global non-invasive fat reduction devices market 2016-2020 is expected to grow at an impressive CAGR of close to 27% during the forecast period.

This research report titled ‘Global Non-invasive Fat Reduction Devices Market 2016-2020’ provides an in-depth analysis of the market in terms of revenue and emerging market trends. This market research report also includes an up to date analysis and forecasts for various market segments and all geographical regions.

The growing importance of physical appearance in society and changes in lifestyle, will lead to a drastic rise in the number of people undergoing non-invasive fat reduction procedures during the forecast period.

Non-invasive fat reduction treatments are procedures that eliminate excess fat using non-surgical techniques. The main focus of these procedures is to focus on excess fat that is resistant to diet and exercise. Non-invasive fat reduction devices are based on therapies such as ultrasound therapy, low-level laser therapy, and RF therapy. Non-invasive fat reduction procedures can be performed by doctors of all specialties, and are not the domain of plastic surgeons and dermatologists only,” says Barath Palada, a lead analyst at Technavio for orthopedics and medical devices research.

The report categorizes the global non-invasive fat reduction devices market into three major segments based on technology. They are:

  • Radiofrequency energy
  • Ultrasound energy
  • Cryolipolysis

Radiofrequency energy

The radiofrequency (RF) energy-based devices used for reduction of fat work on the principle of collision of charged ions and molecules through the oscillation of electrical current, which generates heat. This heat helps in reducing fat using a process known as cell apoptosis. RF is one of the fastest and most popular technologies present in the market. It is a painless method and suitable for all types of patients.

The results are visible from the first session itself, and these devices have a long-lasting effect on the skin. Products such as Vanquish by BTL Industries and Venus Swan by Venus Concept are some of the popular fat reduction devices based on RF energy.

Ultrasound energy

Ultrasound energy-based devices use ultrasound waves. These waves are focused directly onto the layers of fat, where they attack fat cells, induce them to heat up, and finally lead to their death. “The ultrasound energy is focused solely on the fat cells and does not damage the surrounding tissues,” says Barath. VASERlipo by Solta Medical and UltraShape by Syneron Medical are some of the fat reduction devices based on ultrasound energy technology.

Cryolipolysis

Cryolipolysis-based fat reduction technology is based on the technique of exposing the selected area to extreme cold. This technology is based on the principle of fat cells being more vulnerable to cooling than the surrounding tissues. An attached non-invasive applicator extracts energy from the underlying fat tissue, without injuring the muscles, nerves, skin, and other tissues. The cooled fat cells gradually die and are removed, thereby reducing the thickness of the layer of fat. Vendors such as ZELTIQ Aesthetics offer products based on this technology.

The top vendors highlighted by Technavio’s healthcare and life sciences research analysts in this report are:

  • Syneron Medical
  • ZELTIQ Aesthetics
  • Cynosure
  • Solta Medical

Other prominent vendors:
