Current ENB Stock Info

On October 16, 2017 Enbridge Inc. (Ticker: ENB) received a Presidential Permit with the U.S. Department of State to authorize transportation of 800,000 barrels of oil per day on the existing three-mile segment of the Line 67 pipeline that runs across the U.S. – Canada border.  The pipeline will deliver crude oil to Minnesota and neighboring states.

After a five-year process of review, Enbridge said the issuance of a Presidential Permit for Line 67 will serve national interests by allowing a secure and reliable source of crude oil to be delivered to U.S. refineries.

According to an article by the US Department of State, the previous annual capacity of the pipeline is 570,000 barrels per day.  Another article from the US Department of State says, “A Presidential permit has been issued to Enbridge Energy, L.P. authorizing Enbridge to increase transport up to a full design capacity of approximately 890,000 barrels per day of crude oil and other hydrocarbons across a three-mile segment at the U.S.-Canada border near Neche, North Dakota, through an existing Enbridge terminal in Superior, Wisconsin.”

Expanding the capacity on a pre-existing pipeline that already operates under a Presidential Permit is an efficient manner to increase midstream capacity.  The recent Presidential Permit is needed to assess the modifications required to increase annual capacity from 570,000 to 800,000 barrels per day. According to Enbridge, 890,000 barrels per day is the design capacity, while the 800,000 barrels per day is the operating capacity.
