EMCs Race To Restore Power Following Severe Weather And Tornadoes

TUCKER, Ga., Jan. 22, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- The electric membership cooperatives (EMCs) have been hit hard as severe weather, and some tornadoes, have pounded much of Georgia this weekend, interrupting power to thousands of customers.

Currently, EMCs report approximately 31,000 customers without service, primarily in south and southwest Georgia, and that number could increase as the second band of severe weather makes its way across the state later today and tonight.

Cooperatives have been watching weather forecasts closely and earlier this week began following their emergency plans and have all resources in place and have called upon neighboring cooperatives and contract crews to assist in restoration efforts if needed.

The EMCs will continue to watch this storm closely and would like to remind members to keep abreast of the storm's development and take every precaution in the event the state experiences additional damages in the wake of the severe weather. 

Customers should contact their local EMC to report any power outages and can obtain storm updates through their respective EMC web site.
