Don’t make anyone angry today if you use an iPhone: They might send you a text that crashes your phone, in care of a newly discovered iPhone bug.
The culprit is a short string of characters widely circulating Wednesday on social media and blogs. The vulnerability, discussed on Reddit and elsewhere, crashes Messages — the text and message app built into iOS — and causes the receiver’s phone to turn off. Twitter users have been discussing the bug and trading stories.
Apple News blog iClarified, among other blogs and sites, shared specific ways to resolve the issue.
“We are aware of an iMessage issue caused by a specific series of unicode characters and we will make a fix available in a software update,” an Apple spokesman said in an email to Blue Sky.
