SMECO Selects ICF for $18 Million Energy Efficiency Contract

ICF Will Deliver Residential and Commercial Energy Efficiency Portfolio

Southern Maryland Electric Cooperative (SMECO), has selected ICF (NASDAQ:ICFI), a consulting and technology services provider to government and commercial clients around the world, for a new contract to design and deliver its residential and commercial energy efficiency portfolio. The contract, which was awarded in the first quarter, is valued at $18 million and has a term of three years.

“SMECO relies on ICF’s diverse combination of services—energy technology, digital and interactive services, data analytics, IT solutions, contractor training, marketing and call center support—to deliver cost-effective, customer-centric energy efficiency programs,” said Jeff Shaw, vice president of distributed energy and sustainability for SMECO. “We look forward to continuing to work with ICF to develop and implement programs designed to help our customer-members save energy and money.”

ICF has delivered SMECO’s energy efficiency portfolio for the past nine years, providing strategic advisory and implementation services and helping the cooperative plan for the next generation of demand side management programs. Over this period, SMECO has garnered multiple JD Power customer satisfaction and ENERGY STAR awards for its programs.

ICF’s Southern Maryland-based team will continue to serve as a trusted advisor to SMECO as it works to achieve increasingly aggressive statewide energy efficiency goals by motivating customers across multiple communities to engage in energy‐saving behaviors. The Maryland Public Service Commission is expected to approve the cooperative’s 2018-20 program filings in December.

“ICF is proud of its role in helping SMECO build award-winning programs that keep the customer front and center,” said Mike Mernick, senior vice president for ICF. “We are thrilled to continue to work with SMECO to further integrate its energy efficiency and demand response programs and empower its customers to make smart energy decisions to realize even greater cost savings.”

SMECO is a customer-owned electric cooperative that provides electricity to more than 160,000 services in Southern Maryland.
