The Oklahoman, Oklahoma City, Eagle and Beagle column

March 13--Eagle

None of our local stocks is among the 30 blue chips in the Dow Jones index. But, we still like to see headlines like those of last week that noted the Dow rose for the fourth straight week.

The broader S&P 500 and Nasdaq, which do include some local favorites, also posted gains.

Our top-performing

Oklahoma
-based stock is ADDvantage Technologies Group, a
Broken Arrow
firm that deals in cable television equipment. AEY shares jumped 14.6 percent last week before closing Friday at $1.96.

The company on Thursday announced that it had entered into a joint venture to deconstruct cell tower sites in 13 states and store the pieces. All of last week's gains for AEY shares came after that announcement.

ADDvantage Technologies remains a local company with a modestly priced stock that regularly produces a profit.

Beagle

Last week was a downer for our beagle.

Shares of

Tulsa
-based Williams Cos. closed lower every day than they opened -- until Friday. That was the day the energy company announced it would lay off about 10 percent of its 6,700 employees.

Meanwhile, a pending merger with Energy Transfer continues to stumble along as both firms have been slammed by lower commodity prices.

WMB fell 16.4 percent over the past five trading days, closing Friday at $16.01. The down week also ended a nice rally that began about a month ago.

The good news? Williams is still getting stuff done. On Friday, the company also announced a pipeline expansion and natural gas gathering deal.

Eagle & Beagle is a weekly look at the state's high-performing (eagle) and low-performing (beagle) stocks by Business Editor Don Mecoy.
