Houston, 4 October (Argus) — A storm system near Jamaica is expected to enter the central Gulf of Mexico by midweek and may grow to hurricane force as it heads toward the US coast.

The system was located south of Jamaica this evening with maximum winds of 35mph, according to the National Hurricane Center. On its current track it may enter the central Gulf of Mexico early on the morning of 7 October as a Category 2 hurricane, and would be named Delta.

While the path is hard to determine at this stage, the hurricane center warns the system may bring dangerous storm surge and high winds to the US coast from Louisiana to the Florida Panhandle.
