Turkey raises Tuna-1 gas discovery reserves to 405 bcm

President Tayyip Erdogan said on Saturday that Turkey had raised the estimated reserves in the recently discovered Tuna-1 gas discovery off its Black Sea coast to 405 billion cubic metres – equivalent to around 14.3 trillion cubic feet – after finding an additional 85 billion cubic metres.

The Tuna-1 ultra-deepwater exploration well is located in block AR/TPO/KD/C26-C27-D26-D27, which is held 100 percent by TPAO. The well was drilled with 6th generation drillship ‘Fatih’ (see photo) which was purchased in 2018 by TPAO. The well, which was drilled in 2115 meters of water depth reaching a final total depth of 4525 meters, encountered more than 100 meters of natural gas bearing reservoir in Pliocene and Miocene sands.

TPAO had previously announced that Tuna-1 well data and geophysical studies show a potential of 320 billion cubic meters of lean gas which represents the largest discovery in Black Sea. There was also an expectation of additional upside potential down at the undrilled section of the well.
